You should think ahead about ways to be safe if you are in a dangerous or potentially dangerous relationship. Here are some things to consider in designing your own safety plan.
Make a list of who you can talk with about your situation.
What people at school can you tell in order to be safe--teachers, principal, counselors, security?
Consider changing your school locker or passwords for things like myspace and facebook.
Consider changing your route to/from school or work.
Use a buddy system for going to school/work and other activities; make sure people know where you are.
Plan. What resources do you have? A Cell Phone? A Car?
Keep a journal describing the abuse.
Change your phone numbers and get rid of any cell phones or computers the abuser gave you in case they contain a GPS tracking device.
Keep spare change, calling cards, number of the local shelter (1-866-841-6229), number of someone who could help you and any restraining orders with you at all times.
Plan:where could you go quickly to get away from an abusive person?
If appropriate keep a bag packed with clothes, money and your written safety plan in case an emergency comes up.
