Flirting Or Hurting?

The Flirting Or Hurting Curriculum is based on Nan Steins work on the issue of sexual harassment. Using a workbook specifically tailored to your school the presenter explores with the class the issue of stereotypes and what it "means" to be a girl and boy.

Excerpts from your schools student handbook about sexual harassment are broken down with the kids into a language they can understand. The class talks about the difference between flirting which is a welcome and mutual behavior and sexual harassment which is harmful and hurting. Language is a large part of these discussions as many do not know that using sexually explicit and derogatory words is a form of sexual harassment.

The students begin to think about what a healthy relationship means to them and how they can achieve that. Using current issues like Chris Brown and Rihanna's recent domestic violence the students begin to see how unhealthy relationships develop.

The ideal presentation would be one hour for three visits totaling three-hours. This allows the presenter time to answer questions as well as build a rapport with the students to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere while we delve into sometimes uncomfortable topics
