The Rape and Domestic Violence Shelter offers a variety of trainings for local service providers. Below is a list of some, but not limited to, trainings offered. If you're group is in need of a specific topic and/or is geared to a specific population of people please contact Nicole at 225-7376.
Healthy Relationships- What are they? How do I identify one? What do I want in a relationship? This training explores these topics and helps the audience define what a healthy relationship is for themselves. This training focuses on individuality and not the group. This is a very interactive group topic and takes about 60 minutes.
Dating Violence-What is it? Who get's into these relationships? Why do people stay? This training focuses on dating violence and the pattern involved. Using statistics, conversation and activities the group explores this topic and how they as individuals can be aware of such violence in their own lives. Communication and questions from the audience are an important aspect in this training. It takes about 60 minutes to complete the training. (This training can be tailored to parents/ guardians of teens and how they can positively interact with their teenager about this topic)
Domestic Violence- Is there a difference between dating violence and domestic violence? Who is affected? How can I help? This training utilizes statistics, comparison and conversation to help people understand the dynamics involved in domestic violence relationships. State laws, impact on children and affect on community are an important aspect of this group. Famous domestic violence situations are discussed to provide examples the cycle of abuse, how the media perpetuates it and the devastating effects it has on our communities. This training takes about 45 minutes.
Impact of Domestic Violence on Children-What happens to the kids? Do they repeat the cycle? This training is a more in depth look at the effect domestic violence has on the children in the home, or who have been removed from the home due to domestic violence. This training often runs congruently to the Domestic Violence training. This topic covers the role of DHHS/DCYF and the New Hampshire laws mandating every NH resident as a reporter of child abuse/ neglect. This training uses 911 tapes to demonstrate the vast differences in how children adapt to such violence. This training takes about 45 minutes.
LGBT Partner Violence- Aren't they 'equals', how can one be abused? Is this common? This training focuses on the truths about LGBT partner violence and some of the severe barriers that keep the victim/survivor quiet about it; including societial judgement, fear and misconception. Statistics and conversation are utilized to discuss the prevalence of this violence and how we as a society can help end misconceptions about such violence. This training takes about 45 minutes.
Sexual Harassment-Why don't people say something when it happens? What is it? Who's effected? This training is offered for information to two different populations. Teenagers and sexual harassment which focuses on schools and the workplace. The federal and state laws about harassment are discussed to provide a better understanding of the protection from such violence. Utilizing conversation, activity and statistics the trainer helps answer common questions associated with sexual harassment. This training is offered for teenagers and to adults/ guardians with teenagers so that they can better understand the prevalence and the danger of sexual harassment. This training takes about 90 minutes.(which can be broken up into two different lessons) Sexual Harassment for adults in the workplace is also an offered training. Focusing on daily language use, what is and is not appropriate for your workplace and how to report sexually harassing behavior.This training takes about 45 minutes.
Sexual Assault-What is sexual assault? How do I protect myself? Who is assaulted?This training focuses on the reality of sexual assault including that over 80% of victim/survivors know there attacker personally. This training helps identify what is assault and what is rape. Using activities, conversation and statistics the trainer helps people identify the severity of sexual assault and why it is the most under-reported crime in the United States of America. This training is offered for teenagers and adults. Utilizing questions and conversation this interactive topic takes at least 60 minutes.
Stalking-What is stalking? How can I protect myself? Isn't stalking just something see in comedies and horror movies?This training is an educational training about what stalking is, what laws are in place and how to keep a stalking victim/survivor safe. Misconceptions are discussed and explored with the trainer to help people understand the devastating affects stalking can have on it's victims. This training takes about 45 minutes.
How to Prevent Child Sexual Assault (for parents)-If I keep my kids from strangers won't they be fine? This training focuses on the common belief that only strangers sexually abuse children. 95% of children who have been sexually assaulted know their perpetrator personally and often is a trusted friend or family member. How can I protect my child? How do I know if he/she has been assaulted? These questions are answered in this training and will help teach you as a parent how to communicate with your child about sexual assault. This training is about 60 minutes long and utilizes questions and communication to form the presentation.
